1776 High Alpine Cabin

Great product. Very simple install on my 1776 high alpine cabin. I learned the hard way that it is a good idea to dry-fit these before applying glue to ensure a solid fit. This will make a huge difference considering the storms I see at my 1776 high alpine cabin.

Great Product

I installed our square painted beam caps yesterday. First we ordered a sample for one beam to check them out. I was very impressed with the workmanship and quality of the sample so ordered caps for the 13 remaining beams. These caps also were high quality and fit about as perfectly as they could. I'll take a little credit for measuring the beams correctly but Sheetmetal Caps deserves most of the credit for using those measurements to make a perfect fit. Installation was a piece of cake. It took about as long to remove the protective plastic on the caps as it did to install them. In addition to the quality and workmanship on the caps, all our interaction with the company was excellent. The caps were well packaged for shipment and delivery was amazingly fast. I have only 2 regrets over this whole process. One is that we should have covered our beams long ago and the second that I can give Sheetmetal Caps only 5 stars.

Beam Covers

The painted beam cover for a 4"x12" beam worked quite well even though the beam was not uniform in size. I had to sand the high spots to make it fit. The color was not a perfect match for the beam so I painted it to match. It turned out looking quite professional and natural. The beam cover seems to have been the best solution to the problem of the deterioration of the end of the wood beam. At the same time my sense is that you need some carpentry skills to make it work.

nicely constructed

Ordered three of these to cap beams on a 1915 prairie style bungalow. The brown is a close match to our trim color so they really blend right in. Very nicely constructed- I don't expect to have to touch them again for a very long time.

beamcaps

The product saved me thousands of dollars of labor and material. It looked beautiful when I installed it on my 1909 California bungalow, and looks the same today.
