How do I measure my beam for a beam cap?

Because we custom make our beam caps, taking proper measurements is extremely important. We make our beam caps a little larger than the cap measurements so they fit snugly onto it. However, when ordering give the actual measurement of each beam. We will add the appropriate amount so the cap fits properly.

First determine your desired height for the sides of your beam cap. Typical sizes include 1 1/2" or 2”, but we can make custom heights. It all depends on how much free space your beam allows or your preference.

Next determine the measurements of the beam’s width, length and, if applicable, height. We recommend measuring all exposed beams as measurements can vary.

   1) To find length, measure how far the beam sticks out from the house. (See diagram) This is going to be the most common measurement to differ from beam to beam.

   2) To find width, measure the horizontal side of the beam’s face. (See diagram)

   3) Some caps require a height measurement. To get the height measurement, measure the vertical side of the beam’s face. (See diagram)

That’s it! Your beams are ready for their new beam caps. If you need additional help please contact us! We will gladly help you with your installation questions! We thank you for taking the time to visit our “How To” guide!
